Structure Fire - 211 State Hwy 67, Town of Amsterdam
Wed. Apr 8th 2009

On Sunday April 5th at 12:54pm, the Hagaman Vol. Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a possible structure fire at 211 St Hwy 67 in the Town of Amsterdam. First command units arriving on scene confirmed a working structure fire in a single family, two-story wood frame house with heavy smoke on the first and second floors. The homeowner stated there were no occupants inside the residence. Mutual aid was requested from the Cranesville and Fort Johnson fire departments to assist with tankers and manpower.

Engine 5 and Tanker 7 arrived on scene shortly after and Team 1 began an offensive attack from the rear entrance of the structure. With the helpful use of the Thermal Imaging Camera, the fire was found and contained within minutes by the initial crew stopping the fire from further extension. Secondary crews from Engine 3 and Rescue 4 were able to successfully ventilate the house, clearing the smoke and heat. The fire was contained to the kitchen area of the first floor. Mutual aid departments set up a water supply at a nearby intersection to fill tankers.

The Montgomery County Cause and Origin team was requested to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. There was significant smoke damage to the interior of the house however the structure itself sustained only minor fire damage on the first floor.

Also assisting on scene was GAVAC and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Perth Vol. Fire Company was on Standby in our station during the call. The scene was cleared at 3:18pm and we were back in service at 3:35pm. There were no injuries to the residents or personnel on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
